Girls' Halloween

What a great year!

We got more than 40 fills and +300 comments in total! This is all thanks to yoy, who participated, who prompted, or write, or commented!

It all happened thanks to you, so I hope that you had as much fun, if not more, than I did 💕

With this the 2024 comes to a close. New comments on the entry will be screened; this means that you will have the ability to comment but the comments won’t show up. If there is something that gets caught there and you’d like to get back (I.e. a fic posted, or a comment to pass through other means) let me know where to send it to you and I’ll do so.

That does not mean it’s not possible for you to fill in any more fics, just feel free to post them directly on ao3 (we have the collection here) or your platform of preference. If it is public and would like me to add it to the thread of fills in Twitter, just let me know!

Below this post feel free to post a round up of the fics your have posted, as a sort of friending meme and reveal party :3 Feel free to comment even if you have not filled in anything and we’re just hanging around for the fun of it!

Not going to lie, I had the day off today so I knew beforehand that today's deadline was going to be pretty lax. I didn't expect it to be so much, wow, I am so sorry.

Anyway, as of this post the 2023 session for scarygirlynight is officially closed!

This means that new comments left on the main entry will now be screened (if you did not realize and there is something you would like to recover, let me know) -- but you are absolutely free to post new fills anywhere else, and even add them on the AO3 collection if you'd like.

If you mention the twitter account (scarygirlynight) I will also give a RT even if it is out of season.

So many new people joined this year, it was really really fun! Thank you all for coming and participating. Everyone who even just clicked to look, everyone who read and commented and prompted and wrote. This is because of you and it will not be fun without you, so thank you everyone for the magic ✨

If you are so inclined, both as a way to have voluntary reveals and a bit to have a friending meme and get to know more people who love the same things we do, feel free to list under this post the things you have written -- doesn't matter if they were in anon or not! And if you see the author of something you enjoy, do come say hi to them!!

A lovely anon asked on curiouscat for a tutorial on how to participate, and so here we are!

The first thing to know is that while you can have an account, it is not mandatory to have one to participate.

As you might see from previous editions, while the entry is open most of the prompts and most of the fills are done by anonymous users, and it is only at the end when people do disclose the fics that they have written -- if they want to do so, of course.

Now, to the interesting part: how to actually participate.

Things that you can do:
⚝ Prompt
⚝ Fill a prompt
⚝ Comment on a fill

⚝ HOW TO PROMPT

You just need to go to the bottom of the entry of that year, find the links picture below and hit on the "Post a new comment" as highlighted below.



When you do that, this box will pop out:



You can write your prompt on the bigger box, and once you are done, hit the "Post comment" button.

If you are familiar with html you can use it for both prompts and fills, but if you would rather use markdown for that, you only need to check that on the dropdown as pictured here:



⚝ HOW TO FILL

If you see a prompt you like, and you have either written the fic, posted the fic and you want to share a link, or you feel very brave and want to write a fic right on the comment box, you will only need to locate the prompt that you liked and find the (Reply to this) link right below it. For example:



The same box from above will appear, you will only need to write, or copy, your fill there and hit "Post".

⚝ HOW TO COMMENT

Actually this section is exactly the same as the fill one, with the exception that you would be finding the (Reply to this) button right below the fill or comment you would like to reply to.

Earlier on the post we mentioned that an account was not necessary to participate, but how does all of this changes when you try to follow this and you are logged in? Pretty much anything with the exception that if you want to post as an anonymous person, you will need to select it every time you post.

You can do it by clicking on the reply link, and then clicking the "More options" button as seen below:



And that is about it! The freeing thing about the ficathon is that you do not need to formally sign up, you can just come, check out if there is anything you like, post your own prompts or fills, and leave.

For anyone that has never used Dreamwidth and would like to try, please feel free to make some test comments below! And if you have any questions, of course do share them here if you want!

The sweet spot between summer fests and Christmas and yuletide is here, perfect to get that itch off with writing! And what better way to do it than writing about all the girl groups!
